HISTORY TO PRESENT
The Mythic Healer The brand and the farm are named after Chiron, the wisest of the Centaurs, who famously lived in the caves of Pelion. In Greek mythology, Chiron was the first herbalist and the mentor of Asclepius, the god of medicine. He used the unique biodiversity of the mountain—described by Homer as the “quivering foliage” rich in healing plants—to cure wounds and diseases. This mythological foundation is not just a story; it is the core philosophy of the farm, which seeks to preserve the exact species mentioned in ancient texts.
The Botanical Paradise Pelion is biologically unique, hosting over 1,000 species of plants, many of which are endemic. For centuries, the villagers of Drakeia and the surrounding areas relied on this “natural pharmacy” for survival, passing down knowledge of which roots could cure a fever and which leaves could stop bleeding. However, modern industrialization threatened to erase this wisdom. The founders of Chiron Botanicals established their cultivation to protect these native varieties, ensuring that the genetic lineage of the mountain’s flora remained pure.
Organic Cultivation The farm was established with a strict commitment to Organic Farming (Bio). Located at an altitude that varies between 500 and 1,100 meters, the cultivation plots benefit from clean mountain air and water, far from the pollution of the city. The team focuses on sustainable harvesting methods, collecting wild herbs like St. John’s Wort (Hypericum) and Lemon Balm (Melissa) at the peak of their potency without damaging the ecosystem.
From Soil to Shelf Unlike mass-market herbal companies, Chiron Botanicals controls the entire process from seed to packaging. They developed specialized drying techniques that preserve the essential oils and vibrant colors of the herbs, which are often lost in industrial processing. This dedication to quality allowed them to expand from simple dried teas to essential oils and therapeutic blends, gaining a reputation across Greece for producing some of the most potent natural remedies available.
Chiron Today: The Educational Hub In the present day, Chiron Botanicals has evolved from a production facility into an educational destination. The “Chiron’s Herb Garden” in Drakeia welcomes visitors to walk the paths and learn to identify plants like “Sideritis” (Mountain Tea) and “Origanum Vulgare” in the wild. It serves as a bridge between the past and present, proving that the ancient healing arts of the Centaurs are not myths, but practical science that is still relevant for modern wellness.
